How to Adjust Uni-Max® Spray

Uni-Max® ST and PRO systems

The ability to make precise adjustments is what makes the Uni-Max® the most accurate MQL system. The Uni-Max® uses three adjustments to create a balanced MQL spray. Start from default settings and observe process performance before making adjustments:

When to make adjustments

Make adjustments to apply the least amount of lubricant to suit your process while eliminating negative effects.

Increase lubricant output if you see:Decrease lubricant output if you see:
  • fast wear
  • sticking chips
  • poor finish
  • heat effects
  • built-up edge
  • smoking
  • carryoff
  • wet chips
  • puddling
Increase airflow if you see:Decrease airflow if you see:
  • spitting
  • fogging

How to check for consistent lubrication

Pass a piece of cardboard in front of the nozzle and observe the spray pattern.

Fix inconsistent lubrication by increasing Pump Cycle Rate and decreasing Pump Stroke (pumping less lubricant volume at a faster rate).

How to make adjustments

Pump cycle rate:

Set lubricant output using your system's Pulse R™ electronic timer or a Pneumatic Pulse Generator. Output is measured in pump cycles per minute.
Factory settings: 10 cycles per minute
Typical range: 5 – 30 cycles per minute

Airflow:

Adjust to control the fineness of lubricant spray and to prevent fogging or spitting.
Factory setting: ½ turn out
Typical range: ¼ – 1 turn out

Pump Stroke:

Adjust Pump Stroke only if lubrication is inconsistent or to vary output on systems with multiple pumps. In most cases, we recommend leaving pumps at P (prime/full stroke) and adjusting Pump Cycle Rate to set lubricant output.
Factory setting: P (prime/full stroke)
