Installing the Unist Uni-Max^® ST Ellis Kit

The Unist Uni-Max^® ST Ellis kit is designed to arrive largely assembled, allowing for a straightforward installation process. This procedure covers unboxing, component identification, mounting, nozzle alignment, tubing routing, and system preparation before operation.

Step 1: Unbox and verify components

1. Open the shipping box and verify all contents:
   • Uni-Max^® ST lubrication system
   • Accessory package 1 - Ellis mounting kit
   • Accessory package 2 - Tubing
2. Verify that the Uni-Max^® ST lubrication system is present and arrives preassembled.
3. Inspect all components for visible shipping damage before proceeding.

Step 2: Identify the correct Ellis mounting option

1. Open the Ellis mounting kit package.
2. Confirm the package contains:
   • Ellis mounting bracket 1 - for Ellis 1600, 1800, 2000, and 3000 series band saws.
   • Ellis mounting bracket 2 - for Ellis 4000 series band saws.
3. Confirm your Ellis band saw model and select the correct Ellis mounting bracket before installation.

Step 3: Install air connection

1. Choose a quick-connect air inlet coupling (1/8" NPT, not included) compatible with your air supply line.
2. Apply thread dope to your chosen quick connect air coupling and install it into the threaded point on the Uni-Max^® ST.
3. Ensure the fitting is fully seated, secure and free of leaks.

Step 4: Mount the Uni-Max^® ST 

1. Select a mounting location on the band saw.
2. Whether magnet mounting or choosing a fixed position choose a location that:
   • Is easy to access without obstructions that may pinch or kink inlet or outlet lines.
   • Is clear of moving machine components.
   • Is protected from accidental contact during blade changes and routine operation.
3. Place the Uni-Max^® ST against the selected mounting surface.
4. Secure the unit and confirm the system is level and the reservoir faces up.

Step 5: Assemble the band saw blade nozzle

1. Position the correct Ellis mounting bracket against the band saw blade nozzle assembly.

2. Install the supplied socket head cap screws.
3. Tighten the fasteners securely.
4. Verify that the bracket and nozzle assembly are firmly attached.

Step 6: Mount the band saw blade nozzle

1. Position the nozzle assembly on the blade guide arm.
2. Adjust the nozzle so the bottom of the nozzle is approximately 3/8 inch above the bottom of the blade.
3. Secure the nozzle using the supplied socket set screws.
4. Verify that the nozzle remains stable after tightening.

Step 7: Align the nozzle to the blade

1. Confirm that the blade is centered within the nozzle opening.
2. Verify that the top edge of the blade aligns with the ruler mark corresponding to the installed blade size.
3. Make any necessary adjustments.
4. Recheck alignment after tightening all hardware.

Proper nozzle alignment helps ensure lubricant is delivered accurately to the cutting area.

Step 8: Route and connect the tubing

1. Connect the straight nylon tubing to the Uni-Max^® ST.
2. Connect the opposite end of the straight tubing to the coiled tubing.
3. Connect the coiled tubing to the band saw blade nozzle.
4. Route tubing along the machine frame.
5. Ensure the tubing:
   • Avoids moving components.
   • Avoids pinch points.
   • Avoids sharp bends and kinks.
   • Allows the machine to move through its full operating range.
6. Secure tubing as needed to maintain a clean routing path.

The coiled tubing should be installed as the final tubing section to provide additional length and support consistent lubricant delivery.

Step 9: Connect utilities

1. Supply electrical actuation power to the Uni-Max^® ST.
2. On Ellis band saws, actuation power may be available through machine-mounted outlets.
3. Connect a clean, dry compressed air supply.
4. Verify air pressure is between 80 and 100 PSI.
5. Fill the reservoir with Unist Coolube^® before operation.

Step 10: Prepare for operation

1. Prime the Uni-Max^® ST according to applicable operating procedures.
2. Verify all connections are secure.
3. Confirm tubing is properly routed.
4. Confirm nozzle alignment has not changed.
5. Start the bandsaw and perform a test cut.
6. Verify system operation and lubricant delivery during cutting.
7. Observe the sawing process and make adjustments if you see negative effects.
