What is the fluid flow rate from an LV Nozzle?

2021-03-02

With the needle valve fully open, water can achieve a flow rate of 12mL/s at 100 PSI through an LV nozzle.  These results will vary between fluids and nozzles, as the flow rate depends on the fluid pressure, viscosity and the needle valve position.  The following relationships exist:

  • Increased fluid pressure will lead to an increased flow rate.
  • A higher fluid viscosity (thicker fluid) will have a lower flow rate than a low viscosity (thin) fluid.
  • The more open the needle valve, the higher the flow rate.

The flow rates will also decrease when multiple LV nozzles share the same fluid supply line and are turned on at the same time.

Note: The needle valves are not meant to be full shut off needle valve.  Only close them finger tight as over tightening them will cause permanent damage to the valve.
