When to change roller covers on a Uni-Roller®, Uni-Roller® S2 or Mini-Roller

2021-03-11

The life of a roller cover can be as short as a couple of months or as long as a year, but each application is unique so it is up to the user to determine the proper replacement interval. The following factors will affect the roller cover life:

  • Fluid Type: If using a fluid that has tendency to coagulate, clog, or isn’t filtered, then the roller cover will become less porous over time. This will eventually lead to improper application of the lubricant.
  • Usage & Abuse: Sharp edges, deformed head and tails of the stock, or running the leading edge of the stock into the face of the roller cover (powered roller systems) will cause decreased roller cover life.
  • Cleanliness of the stock: Dirty stock will eventually clog the outside of the roller covers, leading to improper application of the lubricant.
  • Compression: Regardless of the stock and fluid cleanliness, the roller covers will compress over time. This leads to decreased porosity, which results in improper application of the lubricant.

Note: If using a Uni-Roller® or Mini-Roller system in conjunction with a SmartFlow® controller, a maintenance warning can be set (in months or material consumed) which will alert the user when to change the roller covers.
