What is the ideal fluid pressure for the SmartFlow controller?
The fluid source for the SmartFlow controller may be an air-over-oil pressurized tank, an air-operated diaphragm pump, or a pressurized central fluid supply. Typical fluid pressure should be below 50 psi and must not exceed 100 psi.
To ensure optimal performance, the system must be properly calibrated for flow regardless of the fluid source. Typical flow rates range from 5 to 15 ml/sec but can vary significantly based on fluid viscosity and supply pressure. For this reason, a flow test is required during initial setup.
As a general starting point, fluid pressure should be set based on viscosity:
• Low viscosity: ~10 psi
• Medium viscosity: ~20 psi
• High viscosity: ~30 psi
After the initial flow test is completed and a new job is created, the system may recommend adjusting the flow rate to a specific ml/sec value. If this occurs, increase or decrease the fluid pressure accordingly and repeat the flow test until the recommended flow rate is achieved.
