Engineered for your success

Our engineering process begins with consideration of your project specifications, integration and design requirements and performance demands. We then identify the optimal components to achieve your goals.

Your custom solution may include:

  • Fluid-only spray nozzles
  • Low-volume spray nozzles
  • Roller or pad applicators
  • Automatic control valves
  • Solenoids
  • Sensors (flow, pressure, temp.)
  • Pressure regulators
  • Filters/strainers
  • Motors
  • Pumps
  • Relays, switches
  • Tubing, piping, fittings
  • Fluid-supply reservoirs
  • Pressurized fluid-supply tanks
  • Manual air or fluid valves
  • Structural support framing
  • Enclosures
  • Electronic timers
  • Custom control panels / GUIs

System Considerations

Fluid delivery
Fluid delivery

Unist engineers pumped fluid or pressure-delivered fluid systems and can recommend the correct method for your application.

Delivery type
Delivery type

Our systems can deliver a continuous supply of fluid or intermittently dispense a discrete drop depending on your requirements.

Contact or non-contact fluid application
Contact or non-contact fluid application

Unist custom systems can apply fluid via direct contact to a variety of materials and shapes or can utilize spray nozzles for non-contact fluid application.

Spray generation
Spray generation

Precise spray control can be achieved with a fluid/air mixture or with an airless (fluid only) method. Unist engineers can help determine the best method for your application.

Spray shaping
Spray shaping

Spray shaping is critical when it comes to accurate application and fluid conservation. Unist supplies a variety of nozzles for both focused or fan-spray patterning.

Fluid control
Fluid control

All projects have budgets and allowable margins of error. Unist has the experience to deliver the correct level of control for your application.

Built for performance and durability

Our customers’ success and our reputation both depend on our systems’ ability to not only perform in demanding manufacturing environments, but to go the distance. That’s why we build them using quality materials and proven components and employ rigorous testing to ensure they deserve a place in your manufacturing or assembly line.

Custom Engineered Solution Examples

Contoured Roller Applicator for Round Wire
Problem:
Customer’s existing spray system did not produce adequate spray pattern to properly lubricate the entire circumference of wire. This system caused fluid waste and mess because of overspray and limited spray pattern adjustment
Solution:
Unist developed a contoured roller applicator to maintain contact with and lubricate the entire circumference of the wire. Internally-fed rollers wick transfer only what fluid is needed to the wire stock without waste or mess.
Results:
Customer was pleased to report a 40% reduction in fluid usage resulting in an estimated $11,000 savings per month. They also report that fluid mess on equipment and floors is no longer an issue.
Fluid delivery:
Pressure-based, continous delivery
Control:
Programmable digital fluid controller with job storage, active monitoring of fluid level and pressure, alerts and anti-tamper lockout feature.
Integration:
Rotational sensor on applicator allows controller to maintain correct fluid dispense rate regardless of variable line-speed.
Auger Coating Solution
Problem:
The customer required an even coating of oil across the entire surface of an auger shaped part with minimal overspray.
Solution:
Unist developed a custom enclosure featuring 2 low volume spray nozzles.
Results:
The fixture allows the auger to be fed through recieving a light even coating of oil across the product, without any overapplication mess.
Fluid delivery:
LV nozzles, pressure tank, & valve stack
Control:
Solenoid valves
Custom Conveyor Chain Lubrication
Problem:
A conveyor chain OEM required a custom lubrication fixture to lubricate sections of conveyor chain.
Solution:
Using postive displacement metering pumps, we ensure the same amount of lubrication is dispensed at set intervals, regardless of tubing run lengths. Custom bent nozzles were used to tightly integrate with the mounting fixture.
Control:
Direct control from conveyor system controls
Robotic Die Release Agent Application
Problem:
A robotic cell for load/unloading a die casting machine required a lightweight solution for applying die agent release to the mold.
Solution:
Custom spray assembly with LV nozzles that could both use compressed air to clean and cool the die before coating with mold release.
Fluid delivery:
Pressurized with LV nozzles
Control:
Manually adjusted flow rate, electronically actuated with solenoid valves
Embossed Material Stack Lubrication
Problem:
Automotive heat & sound shield manufacture required a solution for coating the top and bottom of a material stack. Due to embossed layers, traditional coating methods were not feasible.
Solution:
Unist developed a custom spray apparatus with an array of remote adjusted LV nozzles to spray on the top and bottom of the part. The apparatus included adjustments for different size parts, and an enclosure to limit the amount of overspray escaping from the process.
Robotic Assembly Lubrication
Problem:
A robotics integrator was building a cell to automate the assembly of a threaded plug into a port. The plug had an O-ring that required lubrication prior to install.
Solution:
Unist used a Serv-O-Spray system with three BAT nozzles arranged in a custom nesting fixture to generate a spray that could coat around the circumference of the seal's O-ring. The robot would present the plug to the fixture and command the spray cycle.
Results:
The customer was able to dial-in the precise amount of lubrication applied and be assured it was consistently applied each cycle.
